  蛇吐信的样子着实很可怕。那一伸一缩的舌头好像随时都在准备攻击一样。要是有谁说蛇的舌头根本无害,估计没有人会相信。然而大自然总是那么爱捉弄人……

akes don't sting or use their forked tongues as weapo . The tongues are perfectly harmle .

A  ake sticks out its tongue to collect data for its Jaco on's Organ, an organ strategically located in front of the roof of the  ake's mouth that functio  as a chemical receptor. Each and every time the  ake flicks out its forked tongue, it  ares chemical particles in the air, which latch onto, or di olve in, the moisture of the  ake's tongue. Once the  ake reels in its tongue, it i erts the ti  of the forked tongue into the two awaiting openings of the Jaco on's organ where the particles, e ecially those of animal body odors, are identified, analyzed, and acted upon.

For the male  ake, the tongue is both a se ory organ, and a se ual organ. The tongue plays a vital role in  ake courtship and reproduction, as the male  ake's jerking body motio  and rapidly flicking tongue either charms the female  ake, or renders her unre o ive. In either i tance, by sticking out their tongues,  akes e ure the survival of their  ecies.

  forked 叉子似的
